An Update on Princess

Princess is our resident German Shepherd who lives at Jaws and Paws sanctuary ! Princess was abandoned by the previous owner of the property where our sanctuary is. When we asked them about her, they told us they left her on purpose and asked if we could care for her. Princess was living in complete filth and had a tumor the size of a softball hanging off of her hip. She was covered in fleas, going blind, and terrified of most people. Her nails were so long that she had trouble walking. She often was left for days without food or water because the owners no longer lived on the property. Princess showed signs that she had been abused, because she would flinch if you touched her back and was scared of going inside the house. She would also shudder if you raised your hand or made any sudden movements. After building up her trust, we were able to coax Princess out of the grimy dog house she was hiding in. We brought her to our veterinarian immediately to have the tumor removed so she could be more comfortable. Princess was given medicine for her eyes and flea infestation, and was also dewormed. After some time she began trusting us, but she still shows signs of being neglected and abuse. Princess now runs happily around the property and has befriended all the other animals we’ve rescued. She is a complete sweetheart and has opened up to people and love. Princess is a perfect example of how forgiving and incredible dogs are. Even after all the neglect she experienced she was able to open up to us. Veterinarian bills can get very costly, especially for major surgeries like Princess’.
