Meet the Pack!

Aspen

We rescued Aspen from Ohio, where he was living in an apartment with someone who could no longer care from him. His previous owner didn’t realize how challenging it can be to own a wolf-dog. Aspen arrived to us worm-ridden and projectile vomiting. He was treated for several parasites and is on his road to recovery!

Leika

Leika was brought to our radar by a friend rescue organization of ours called ‘Marley’s Mutts’. They told us that someone contacted them in Bakersfield about a wolf dog who needed a home because her owner was forced to get rid of all her animals. It turns out the owner was a hoarder, who had hundreds of animals in a small vicinity; suffering, starving, and neglected. Leika was probably the most emaciated rescue we've ever seen. She had rotten teeth, and was fearful of men. Now that she’s been with us a few months, she is eating more, got her bad teeth pulled, and has been paired with one of our puppies; ‘Bash’. Bash and Leika have completely bonded and in love! Although Leika has had to have two surgeries (one for a tumor and one for a blockage in her intestine) she is healing up and doing much better.

Oracle

Oracle was re-homed by her previous owner to our founder. She helped Titan come out of his shell and trust people, and Titan helped her settle in to a new environment. When she came to us she was anemic and emaciated. Now Oracle is eating a full balanced diet and is thriving with her sweetheart! She loves going on daily hikes and running around our 10 acre property.

Sacred & Echo

Sacred and Echo are two of Storm’s puppies. Storm was pulled from the Lancaster Animal Shelter before euthanasia. They were unaware that she was pregnant, and when we rescued her we had quite the surprise! They are best friends and inseparable brothers who love to play and learn from the other wolves when we integrate them for enrichment.

Titan

Titan is a wolf dog who was rescued from a backyard breeder in Stockton. He was severely beaten and starved most of his life. Because of this, Titan is very reluctant to trust humans. After lots of behavioral therapy he has finally opened up to our staff and will live his days in a habitat with other wolf dogs.

Draco & Spirit

Draco was rescued from a hoarder in Bakersfield. Upon rescue his eyes were almost closed shut from a vicious fungal infection that plagued his lungs. Draco was also severely starved and lived most of his life in a tiny kennel. Thanks to our amazing vets he started to recover and gained over 20 pounds. However, the fungal infection he had was severely damaging his lungs and immune system for many years before we rescued him. We thought that he had recovered but he sadly passed away. It completely broke our hearts. Draco was the sweetest angel and was integral in teaching our younger wolf dogs. We still can’t believe his gone. His spirit lives on in each and every animal at Jaws and Paws. Draco passed away in his sleep next to his sweetheart, Spirit (who was one of Storm’s puppies along with Sacred and Echo). He loved and mentored Spirit and will always be remembered.

Storm and her puppies!

Storm was pulled by us from the Lancaster Animal Shelter before euthanasia. At the time, we were unaware that she was pregnant! Storm was sickly skinny and trembled at the site of humans. It was clear she had been severely mistreated. Storm gave birth to three healthy and beautiful puppies recently!

Arya

Arya is a low content wolf dog who was found abandoned with her brother in a landfill. When she was rescued she was incredible malnourished. Her favorite thing to do is bully her brother Phantom. Arya is 3 years old and the alpha of her pack.

Midnight, Zyra, Ember, and Ghost

These pups were rescued from the Lancaster Animal Shelter. They were dropped off by an elderly man who was hoarding 5 wolves and wolf dogs in his house. He surrendered them to the shelter but no one was able to adopt them, so we took them in. They were very malnourished and skittish upon first arriving, but are now eating and opening up to people.

Phantom

Phantom is a low content wolf dog who suffers from severe hip dysplasia as a result of inter-breeding. He was found with his sister abandoned in a landfill. For months after being rescued Phantom had trouble walking because of his hips. After lots of physical therapy and vet treatment, Phantom can finally run and play. Phantom and his sister had never been to a vet before, so they suffered from many ailments. Luckily they both will live out their days at our sanctuary in a habitat that’s suitable for wolf dogs.

Nickel

Nickel was a wolf-dog who was rescued from a horrible living situation. He was severely abused by his previous owner, and when we rescued him had an enormous infected laceration on his neck. Nickel was 10 years old when he passed, and had arthritis among many other medical conditions. Luckily, with lots of veterinary treatment he started doing much better and his wounds healed. Because he was beaten for most of his life, Nickel was reluctant to trust most humans. He could be very stand-offish and was fearful for so long, but finally bonded with our owner towards the end of his life. One day, his hind legs stopped working, and we found out he had cancer in his spine. Nickel was in extreme pain and started fading away. We knew he was ready to rest, so had to have him put to sleep. We miss hime very single day. He has taught us so much about trust. Nickel had probably the most personality of any wolf dog we’d ever met!

King and Bash

Low content wolf-dog pups King and Bash were rescued from a backyard breeder. When we got them they were incredibly ill and malnourished. They were also terrified of people. After lots of therapy and medical treatment, both pups are thriving at our sanctuary. We believe one day Bash will be the alpha of our pack.

Marshell Lynch

Marshell is a 9 year old male Sulcata tortoise who was rescued from a tortoise farm where he was living in horrible conditions. He lives at our sanctuary now where he enjoys eating kale and basking under his heat lamp. Sulcata tortoises can live up to 70 years and weight up to 200 pounds. They have specific nutritional and dietary needs that make it difficult for some people to properly care for them.

Starburst

Starburst was rescued from the pound a day before he was euthanized. Many people don’t realize how many non-dogs and cats there are at shelters. When these animals don’t get adopted they are forced into euthanasia. White rabbits with pink eyes tend not to get adopted because of their unusual appearance. Starburst lives with many other rescued white rabbits at our sanctuary.

Zazu

Zazu was a baby Eastern yellow-billed hornbill who was confiscated from a pet store who was illegally selling him. He was a victim of the illegal wildlife trade. He was living in a tiny cage and never saw sunlight until we rescued him. He loved to fly, eat mealworms, and play in dust baths. Zazu is the same species of hornbill portrayed in the Lion King. Unfortunately, Zazu passed away 6 months after we rescued him from unknown causes. We did the best we could to care for him, and losing him left a hole in our hearts. We’re glad that Zazu got to experience some happiness with his human and animal friends for at least a short while.

Sasha

Sasha is a baby Indian ring-necked parrot who lost her leg from getting caught in a toy. Her owners put her up for adoption on Craigslist, so we decided to take her in. We are getting a prosthetic limb made for her to make it easier for her to maneuver. She is incredibly sweet and loves berries.

Luau, Big Mama, and Honey

All three of our pigs are female and were rescued from a backyard slaughterhouse. We initially rescued four but sadly their sister died from neurological damage as a result of abuse. Piggy, Kirby, and Jiggly are now living out their days at our sanctuary.

Tumi

Baby Tumi was rejected by her mother for unknown reasons. A family had notified us of her situation and told us she was in need of rescue because she wasn’t eating, drinking, or hardly moving. When we rescued Tumi and gave her the proper diet/nutrition, she bloomed into a beautiful goose! She now lives with her duckling friends in their beautiful pond habitat at our sanctuary.

Bentley the Goat

Young Bentley the pygmy goat was relocated to us by his previous owner. He absolutely loves apples and playing with kids!
