Mission
What: Jaws and Paws is a wolf sanctuary and animal rescue run by women. We save wolf dogs and other species from abuse or neglect and provide a permanent loving residence for them. Our mission is to make a difference for animals while promoting women’s rights and environmental awareness.
Who: Our versatile team is equipped with degrees and expertise in wildlife biology, veterinary science, conservation & resource studies, and environmental science. Our women work tirelessly to not only administer care for our wolves, but rebrand the way in which much of the public views the species. Since 2013 we’ve saved over 100 wolves and other animals from animal shelters from euthanasia, hoarders, and neglectful owners. We currently have 18 wolf dogs at Jaws and Paws Sanctuary in Acton, CA, but we also make it a priority to continue rescuing and placing animals in forever homes.
Why: Wolves have been plagued by misconceptions in the news, media, myths, and legends for hundreds of years. We strive to transform their narrative in order to put a stop to the killing of wolves through petitioning, lobbying and raising awareness. Our rescued wolf dogs act as ambassadors to bring attention to conservation for their wild cousins. Stories like Little Red Riding Hood or Three Little Pigs with the 'Big Bad Wolf' deem wolves as evil. Through building genuine connections with our rescues AND people we can help show the public that wolves are deserving of our protection.
How: Our strategy towards protecting wolves in captivity and the wild is:
1. Rescue - Saving an animal from a harmful situation.
2. Sanctuary - Provide optimal veterinary care, large/suitable enclosures, healthy nutrition, and enrichment for our rescues.
3. Connection - Building a bond with our rescues to optimize their quality of life and encourage enrichment.
4. Awareness - Show the true nature of wolves and incite people to protect them instead of being prejudiced against them.
